Work in Progress of the Harrietsham sculpture

As an area is completed the clay wall is removed, the resulting silicon and plaster wall is cleaned and release agent applied. The same process is repeated until the sculpt is completely covered. When the last application of plaster is set, the mould can be opened. At this stage the original sculpt is discarded and the mould can now be used for casting in resin, or in this case, taken to the foundry for casting in bronze.

The foundry process generally takes about two months. A wax version of the sculpt is produced which I check before the final stages can proceed.

For the Harrietsham sculpture a large cylindrical plinth was made in Portland cast stone which had to be carefully lowered into place by a hyab lorry. Once in place the Bronze could finally be fixed in place with steel studding and resin.
