At the moment the work in my studio involves producing clay sculptures from which a mould is made. This mould can then be used to recreate the sculptures in either resin, generally containing bronze powder, or in bronze at a foundry using the lost wax process. Usually a limited edition is placed on each sculpture, e.g 25 editions means only 25 casts will be made from that particular mould.
Both processes provide an edition which can then be coloured with an acid patination. I tend to finish my sculpts with the traditional brown finish but also experiment with blues and greens. When you buy a sculpture it is possible to request the kind of patina you prefer.
The sculpture is then waxed to protect it from the elements. This is something which should be repeated throughout the life of the sculpture. In the case of resin, wax should be reapplied twice a year to keep it weatherproof and in good condition.
